Canada and Australia went Mo to Mo in a trans-pacific battle to raise awareness, as well as funds, for men's health initiatives.
The Movember challenge has become the only time of the year individuals can combine questionable facial hair growth with raising money for a charity.
Started in 2003 in Australia, the campaign now boasts the participation of 21 countries. To date, more than 570 million CAN$ have been raised around the world for the Movember cause.
In the spirit of friendly competition, the athletes and staff at Rowing Canada Aviron challenged their counterparts in Australia to a pan-pacific Mo-off.
On November 1st, Canada raced out to an early lead in the fundraising department. The Canadians never relinquished their spot to the Aussies throughout the month.
On November 30th, the last day of the challenge, the final tally had the Australian rowing team at $4,608 versus Canada's $5,362.
Conlin McCabe, silver medalist at the 2012 London Games in the Canadian men's eight, raised over $1,000 himself, accounting for almost 1/5th of the Canadian teams total.
In all, close to $10,000 was raised for men's health initiatives by the two rival national teams.
The next competition against the Australians will be on the water and will begin when the World Cup racing season starts in 2015.
